Senior Danelle Palmer is a three year veteran of the OTHS varsity cheer team. Not only is she a great cheerleader, she is also January’s player of the month.
When people hear “player of the month,” they usually don’t consider a sport such as cheer leading, even though cheerleaders put in much time and effort to come out on top.
“Cheering is more than flipping and shouting cheers, it goes way beyond the mats and the roaring fans- it’s a way of life, “ says Palmer.
Palmer, cheering since she can barely remember, seems to always be striving for success. Participating in gymnastics and cheer practice everyday for countless hours, she never gives up. Palmer helped the OTHS cheer squad to victory, placing first in Cheer Sectionals in Missouri and making it to the finals at state.
Palmer explains “ It’s my life, it takes most of my time, but it doesn’t matter, it’s only a small sacrifice for something I love. ”
Palmer’s life is consumed with cheerleading. When asked what she likes to do in her free time , she chuckled and said “ Besides cheering? ” Cheering is her first priority.
In her spare time, which is usually very minimal, she likes to watch cheerleading videos on YouTube and hang out with friends.
“She’s great at what she does. She puts in a 110% effort always and never falls short, I only expect great things for her,” says Head Coach Tami Hudson.
On and off the mat, Palmer never takes the smile off. Being a very social person and having an engaging personality, Palmer is a well-rounded person. Carrying the O’Fallon pride, she couldn’t imagine being anywhere else. Along with her teammates, she is definitely on the prowl to put OTHS at the top of the cheer game where we belong.
